Animals in our society are facing numerous challenges; from homelessness and neglect to mistreatment and abuse. These animals, despite playing an important role in our civilization, are often forgotten and not given the love and care they deserve. Many people resort to harming and killing stray animals to secure their homes, this is why we should be held responsible for these actions and should aid those who are wandering so that even they can live in peace just as our pets do and there shouldn’t be a distinction among them as stray animals are living beings too .

And so the Rotaract Club of IIT recognized this problem and took action by starting the “Voice for the Voiceless” project, also known as V4V.

For the past seven years, V4V has been working hard to raise awareness about animal cruelty and promote kindness towards all animals. This year, the project was split into three phases, each aimed at making a difference in the lives of stray animals.

Description

Phase 1 started on January 25th, with a feeding session in the Sedawatta area. V4V members came together to provide food and love to the stray animals in the community. Seeing the smiles on the faces of these animals as they were fed was a heartwarming experience for everyone involved. On April 19th, V4V held another feeding session, this time in the areas of Bellanwila and Boralesgamuwa and over 75 stray animals were fed during this session, bringing a little bit of joy into their lives.

Phase 2 of the project focused on providing neon glow-in-the-dark collars to stray dogs. The aim was to prevent accidents between vehicles and these helpless creatures. On May 10th, V4V members went around the Colombo area and successfully attached more than 50 neon collars onto stray dogs. These collars not only provide safety but also make the dogs easily noticeable, which can help prevent accidents.

The V4V project is more than just feeding and collaring stray animals. It’s about raising our voices for the voiceless and showing that every animal deserves love and care. The project has been a great success, but there is still so much more that needs to be done. This is a shining example of how we can all come together to make a difference. By raising our voices for the voiceless, we can help end animal cruelty and promote kindness towards all animals. So let’s keep the momentum going and keep fighting for a better world for all creatures.
